Brown: The first goal killed us

Northampton inflicted another defeat upon AFC Wimbledon on Saturday afternoon when they ran out 2-0 winners at Sixfields.

Defensively once again Wimbledon let themselves down with Terry Brown believing that both goals could have been avoided with the opening goal "killing" The Dons.

An inability to convert chances created did little to help either: 'Both goals were dire from a defensive point of view, we tried to nick the ball from Adebayo Akinfenwa and didn't track the winger for the first goal, and both defenders got caught square for the second goal instead of one dropping off.

'Northampton are a good team and created a lot more chances than us but we had a few and had we stuck one away it might have made a difference.'

That is now 13 goals conceded in the last three away games!

The first half was acceptable and the second "bright" enough to begin with but, as said, the Wimbledon boss felt that opening goal did for them: 'I was pleased with the first-half performance and we started the second half brightly. We were looking to go up a gear but the first goal killed us.'
