'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Bassey downbeat on job chances

Simon Bassey isn't so sure that he's in the running to become the next AFC Wimbledon manager following the 2-1 defeat against Accrington on Saturday.

He said: 'I haven't been involved in the new management process. I've been asked to apply, which I did. As a group we'll just keep going and stick together. But against Accrington I felt we lost our way and we switched off at a set piece.

'I haven't had any updates on the permanent position but I think the next manager will be in place by the end of next week. I'm employed by Wimbledon and I'll continue to give my all for this club until they tell me otherwise. I'd rate my chances worse than they were before the game, but that's football.'

Bassey, appointed caretaker when Terry Brown was sacked recently knows that the players will play for whoever is in charge though: 'The players have been sticking together, they're paid by AFC Wimbledon and not by a certain manager,' said Bassey, who won his first game in charge against Wycombe Wanderers.

'I don't think there's any problems with the attitude of the players. The result hasn't gone our way but they're a good, honest group and they'll move on from this.'
