Dons kick off 2013 with dramatic win

Torquay 2-3 AFC Wimbledon

AFC Wimbledon kicked off the new year with a dramatic, and vital, injury-time win at Torquay on Tuesday.

The best start possible happened for The Dons when they scored with their first attack, Paul McCallum (5) setting them on the way early on. However, Torquay were level within minutes through Lee Mansell (9).

At half time it was Wimbledon that were ahead again, just past the half hour Mat Mitchel-King (33) restored the lead.

The hosts had chances before Wimbledon had retaken the lead in the first half, and also had plenty in the second half too and finally equalised in the last minute through Rene Howe (90).

Wimbledon looked like they had been denied a crucial victory, until deep into injury-time they were awarded a penalty. Up stepped Stacy Long (90+4) and his successful spot kick earned The Dons a 3-2 win.
