Dons sign former Bury midfielder

Following his release AFC Wimbledon have been able to bring in Peter Sweeney.

Neal Ardley had been on the trail of the midfielder since November last year, and wanted to bring the 28-year-old in on loan but with the amount of loanees he had at the time these plans had to be shelved.

With the help of Bury, who released him from his contract, Sweeney has been able to join The Dons on a free transfer with Ardley, as he told the official website, saying: 'Peter has played at a high level and played as a youngster for Millwall against Man United.

'He has also played for other clubs at a higher level and he is a fantastic signing for us. He wanted to come back to London for family reasons and we are pleased to give him that opportunity.

'We were looking at signing him in November on loan but we had a lot of players on loan then. We have kept tabs on him since then and Bury manager Kevin Blackwell has been a big help in making this happen. He is an experienced central midfielder with a wonderful left foot.'

Sweeney has the ability to play at a higher level, as his previous shows, so his arrival should help boost The Dons' midfield and aid the relegation bid so should leave most fans happy!
