Ardley - Chelsea Defeat Was Harsh

Ardley - Chelsea Defeat Was Harsh

Manager Neal Ardley was utterly delighted with the display by the lads yesterday in the game against Chelsea, but he admitted that he felt defeat at the end was harsh on the team because the least he felt we deserved, even given their improved second half showing, was a draw.

Speaking to the Official Site following the three two loss, he explained.

'We did a lot of work in preparation for this game and I thought for 65 minutes the boys were outstanding. We showed glimpses of what we can do. Matt Tubbs' movement was fantastic and Bayo Akinfenwa's hold up play gave us a point of attack when we needed it. I thought we kept our shape and the one on one defending was good.'

Ardley goes on to say that even though he knows the substitutions broke our flow and did change the momentum in the game, to not see the game out and losing it from two set pieces did 'annoy' him.

'I want to win games and I wanted the boys to come off having won this game because they deserved it with the work they put in.'

That wasn't to be though, and the loss really shouldn't take the shine off a good performance that really does give hope for the coming season.

The gaffer had given winger Sean Rigg, amongst others, a home debut and he added he had plenty of positives from the match, and Rigg was one of them, saying he produced an 'exceptional' display.

More of the same, without the set pieces, hopefully.
